This last few days have been really busy for me. Although I chose most of the things I had to do, I still found myself struggling. I knew what had to be done, and for the most part, I wanted to get it done. Still, there were times that I just wanted to take a nap. A really, really long nap.
Our lives can get so busy that we forget to do the basics. We forget to take care of ourselves with the same intensity we care for others. We forget to make ourselves a priority during the busy times. I know I’m not the only one. After I wash the dishes, I’ll sit down and eat. After I take care of everyone, I’ll see if there’s time for me to do something. Taking care of others is how we show our love for them. I just have to remember that I need to show myself some love too.
In the midst of all I had to do this week, I found a way to treat myself. Did you know that prayer is a form of self-care? It’s true! When I take the time to pray to God, immediately, the pressures of life began to let up. Prayer massages my heart, soothes my mind, and pampers my spirit. Prayer is just like exercising. It requires commitment and purpose, and it gets results.
If your life is crazy busy right now, and you don’t know to get your prayer exercise in, here are 5 quick times you should pray.
- When it has been a while since you’ve prayed. That’s the perfect time to talk to God. “God I’m back” is a great start. He misses you.
- When you feel too tired to pray. This is one of my favorite times to pray. “Lord, I’m exhausted.” I know that if I push my way, then prayer will refresh me.
- When the task ahead is overwhelming. A simple “God, please help me” reminds me that I can do all things through him!
- When you don’t feel like you can pray. Sometimes things can be so difficult that you don’t have the strength to pray or the words to say. This is when your words can be few. “God, I give you my heart.” He knows what to do.
- When you need to be a priority. “God, thank you” gets the ball rolling when you think of all the great things God does just
bcause helovs you!
Come unto me, all ye that
We all have things that we must do
Strengthen. Heal. Empower.
