What do you think of when you see or hear the word curse? Does it make you make cringe a little? Does it bring to mind images of spells and potions? My complicated upbringing makes me think of pitfalls that have ravaged my family. I think of poverty and addiction. These were things that I was told ran in my family. It was said as if there was no avoiding it. In their minds and mouths, I had to follow suit. There were so wrong!

Today, I introduce you to a real curse breaker. Over the years, I have seen her persevere in circumstances that surely would make others give up completely. She is a fighter in the best sense of the word. I am honored to have her as my guest blogger. No matter what you are going through, she shares three principles that are sure to put you on the path to victory!

CURSE BREAKER BY AMIAJA JONES:

I have a quote I say after I finish a goal that I set out to achieve, “It ran in the family until it ran into me”.  When I was about 10 years old someone told me, “You are a part of these generational curses too.”  I didn’t know what it meant to be a part of a curse, but the words didn’t sit right with me. That wasn’t the first or last time someone told me that I was a part of a generational curse or told that some type of evil spirit was spoken over my life. That is when I knew that wasn’t how my story was going to be. So, I came up with three steps for myself to make sure that my story would not be a sad story but a successful one.

Step one: Prayer. Prayer is the most solid foundation of life. You cannot build a house without foundation so how can you live life without prayer? Everyone will try to give you a blueprint on how to live your life and what is destined for you, but why not go to the one who planned it? Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans that I have for you”.   No one can alter a foundation built by God. When you pray, shackles fall and curses are broken. God has ordained paths for each and every one of us, and no one’s foundation is designed the same. When you pray God will give you the blueprint meant for you.

Step 2: Do not seek validation in the wrong places.

When I was younger, I didn’t have a lot of people that believed in me. So as a young child, I told myself that I would break these generational curses just to prove a point. I had the right idea, but I went about it in the wrong manner. I wanted the people who didn’t believe in me to see me, and I wanted to be acknowledged, but instead I was ignored. I didn’t get recognition until I started freeing myself from those curses right in front of those same doubters and nonbelievers. I did things I only prayed about and went places I had only seen in my dreams. Once those people were finally ready to give me the recognition I begged them for, I didn’t want it from them anymore. After all the places I’d gone and the new people I’d met, I figured out that the whole time I was looking to be validated in the wrong place. I needed to be around people who saw me. If people do not see you for who you are and what you’re destined to be doing, do not stay there and wait for them to recognize you.  Pack up and move. Would you stay in a bad neighborhood after your house got robbed?

            Step 3: NO LIMITS.

“The Sky is the Limit.” That is what some people may tell you after you do something big. When you are a generational curse breaker, there is no limit! Why would you only limit yourself to the sky when there is a whole galaxy? Good things always take time and breaking curses is not easy. To some, the sky is their only limit and for them that is okay, but curse breakers are not only doing this for themselves, but they do it for the ones to come after them and so on. You do whatever it takes to break that curse. When you are born to break curses, going beyond the sky might be the push you need. There is nothing too hard for a generational curse breaker who knows the power they have inside of them and lives beyond the labels and limits that society sets for them. Never let anyone hold you back from doing things that they themselves could never dream of doing. Remember “It ran in the family until it ran into YOU.”
