It seems like this past week was so full. I thought by the time the weekend came, I would be relaxing a bit. Not so much. I had so many errands to run that my back hurt from driving. Of course, while I was driving, my mind was all over the place. I was thinking about all of the things I needed to do and at the same time, I had a fantastic audiobook playing in the car. I kept having to rewind it because I wasn’t paying attention.
On the way to my seventh store, I noticed the driver in the lane next to me. At first, I thought he was on talking on the phone, but I soon realized that he was singing along with the radio. We drove side by side for about two blocks before we stopped at a red light. I eased next to him and I could hear his music blaring. I turned down my radio, rolled down the window, and just enjoyed the show. This young man was belting out a show tune with such passion and enthusiasm! When he realized I was staring at him, he rolled his window down a bit more. It must have looked like I had something to tell him, perhaps a broken tail light warning. I couldn’t resist the opportunity to tell him how fantastic he sounded and how much I was enjoying him! His face turned red with embarrassment and then he smiled a bold toothy grin. When the light turned green, He thanked me for my words and pulled away singing.
He really made my day. I was so absorbed in what I had to do that I completely forgot to sing! I forgot there was a big beautiful world just waiting for me to send my voice into the atmosphere. I don’t know what that young man was dealing with, but it didn’t steal his joy. I don’t want to get so bogged down in my circumstances that I forget to sing. Not only do I want to sing, but I want to share my song!
Who knows? Maybe I can make someone’s day.
Sing aloud unto God strength: make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob. Psalm 81:1
Strengthen. Heal. Empower.
