It is my pleasure to introduce you to Zaire Sayers. She is a dynamic young woman who has a heart for God! Over the years, I have been impressed by her ambition, tenacity, and most of all, her passion for Christ. She gave me joy when she agreed to write about her experience in the church.

Real Talk. Real Praise.

Let every thing that have breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD. Okay, so where in this does it say let everything with a SAVED breath praise him? Nowhere! You don’t have to be saved to give God praise.

I was raised in the church, and though I’m very grateful for my foundation, there is so much more that I want from the people who attend church. If I could share some things with them, I would tell them that you can’t stop someone’s praise because you THINK they aren’t saved or because their life doesn’t look like yours.
We hold on to so many traditions but sometimes miss the heart of Christ. Everyone’s praise is not the same, and God is looking at out hearts.

My generation doesn’t act exactly like the generations before us, but please don’t push us out of the church. Jesus commands us to love. We need love! Mark 2:17,”Jesus said to them, it is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” He was talking to the Pharisees, church people.

So who needs help? The already “saved” people in the church or the young person crying out for God in the best way they know how? The young person is crying out from her heart and not a script she was given growing up. It may not fit protocol, but let her praise the Lord.

To be honest, my generation is very simple. It doesn’t take much to reach us. We just need someone to listen. We don’t want to have to hear a long speech or want someone to feel sorry for us. We just need to vent, and at the end, hear someone say, “Wow, that’s crazy! I’ve had a similar situation.” Let us know if you can make it then so can we. Let us know that you haven’t been saved your whole life. You’ve made mistakes too, but God helped you. We’re looking for the real talk. We aren’t trying to get in anybody’s business, but be real with us. Relate to us.

That’s what I do with my girls in Louisiana. We just sit around talking. We talk about how life was in middle school and high school and how it feels to not fit in with the church or the world. Now the girls love going to church because they have someone they can relate to.

If you see someone who wants to be in the church but needs guidance, help them. Don’t kick them out because they don’t fit in. Please don’t push them aside. There is still so much we can learn from each other. Let’s praise God together!
